I’m back! Well, I don’t want to make any promises, but I’ll sincerely try to revive this blog on my end. With Bette Jane’s inspiration and feeling generally disconnected from the world/old friends/family, this is my feeble attempt.
Because it’s been roughly one and a half years since my last post (ugh,cringe), here’s a little update on what’s happened since:
I’m living in Fort Worth, Texas. I never thought I’d call anywhere other than Washington my home, (especially a place nicknamed Cowtown) but it happened. I miss my family and friends dearly, but I am loving this new adventure.
I’m finishing up my first year of medical school! That’s what brought me to Texas in the first place. I’ve learned so much in the last year, but right now, my brain is mush and I desperately need summer break to come.
Mike and I are engaged and will be married in a couple months! Wowza.
This in-between-seasons thing perplexes me. Jeans, or shorts? Hot or iced? Study, or lounge? It took a Day of Initiation and Recline to settle the flustration for me. Tie-dye leaves of golden brown and green rattled about. Gray-blue clouds drummed along. A wind with a little less pollen and a little more coolness whistled through my hair. It was enough: I gathered my semi-wilted produce, my stock and scarf (I think it was still around 60 degrees) and headed to my dad’s to make soup.
Decisive at last! The act of my dad happily eating said soup, in his recliner (leather almost as withered as my bell peppers), made this Recliner Soup.
Well, folks, our 5-day Vegan challenge is up to its final day. And you know what, it has not been as challenging as expected. In honor of our last supper, we chose a fiery evening of Spicy Black Bean Soup and Mexican Hot Chocolate Snickerdoodles!
From Krisla’s overindulgence in spices to Bette Jane’s electric can-opener, this vegan dinner/dessert combo was one fabulous night. One fabulous fiesta.
